According to RTD, a person was killed last night after trespassing onto some light rail tracks west of Speer Boulevard. The victim was struck by a north bound C Line train. 9News.com is reporting that, the accident occurred just north of the Pepsi Center. The light rail train operator was in a position on the tracks where the operator could not see the victim. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Wednesday morning light rail traffic has been resumed after the conclusion of an overnight investigation.
Earlier this month a 22-year-old college student at CSU was killed after being struck by a train. It is suspected the victim, Devon Arnold, was train hoping after leaving a Denver Nuggets game at Pepsi Center.
The Federal Railroad Administration reports that there were over 9,500 train or railway accidents in 2009. Trespassing incidents accounted for almost 400 fatalities alone.
