According the Denver Post, a Denver attorney has served notice that she plans to file a lawsuit against the CU dental school. The notice alleges that 13 teeth were extracted from a developmentally disabled woman without consent. The “notice of claim” was filed on behalf of Ida Dunn. It also raises questions as to whether the dental resident was properly supervised by a licensed dentist and whether prescriptions were written using a faculty member’s DEA credentials.
This is the second notice filed against the school. A Denver Post investigation found that dentists-in-training were writing prescriptions without direct supervision from attending and licensed dentists.
It is important to see a dentist who is both professionally trained and licensed. Poor dental care can result in the loss of teeth, and well as life threatening and fatal infections. Prescriptions should never be written without licensed supervision. Drug interactions can have serious and life threatening consequences.
