According the Denver Post, a Denver attorney has served notice that she plans to file a lawsuit against the CU dental school. The notice alleges that 13 teeth were extracted from a developmentally disabled woman without consent. The “notice of claim” was filed on behalf of Ida Dunn. It also raises questions as to whether the dental resident was properly supervised by a licensed dentist and whether prescriptions were written using a faculty member’s DEA credentials.

This is the second notice filed against the school. A Denver Post investigation found that dentists-in-training were writing prescriptions without direct supervision from attending and licensed dentists.

Pedestrian Killed in Denver Light Rail Train Accident

According to RTD, a person was killed last night after trespassing onto some light rail tracks west of Speer Boulevard. The victim was struck by a north bound C Line train. 9News.com is reporting that, the accident occurred just north of the Pepsi Center. The light rail train operator was in a position on the tracks where the operator could not see the victim. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Wednesday morning light rail traffic has been resumed after the conclusion of an overnight investigation.

Earlier this month a 22-year-old college student at CSU was killed after being struck by a train. It is suspected the victim, Devon Arnold, was train hoping after leaving a Denver Nuggets game at Pepsi Center.

The Federal Railroad Administration reports that there were over 9,500 train or railway accidents in 2009. Trespassing incidents accounted for almost 400 fatalities alone.

Both the Denver Post and 9News.com are reporting that Richard Keller, a former patient of the Denver VA Medical Center, has sued the federal government after a clamp was left inside his body after heart surgery. The suit is for a reported $15 million. The trial is scheduled to being March 10, 2010.

According to medical error research conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine, it is estimated that a surgical sponge or instrument is left inside of 1 out of every 1000 to 1500 intraabdominaloperation patients. Greely Bus vs. Car Accident

CBS 4 in Denver is reporting that one teenage student was killed when the car she was riding in ran a stop sign and was broadsided by a school bus. The 17-year-old driver and 14-year-old passenger of the car were both injured and transported to a local hospital.

The school bus was reported to be an Eaton School District bus loaded with students. One student on the bus reported being injured, but the injuries did not neccesitate hospitalization.

Sticky Accelerator Causes Major Toyota Recall

If you own certain 2005-2010 Toyota models, your car could be subject to a safety recall. Auto manufacturer Toyota announced this month that it has decided to suspend the sale of 8 of its models after an investigation discovered sticking gas pedals. These models include the 2009-10 RAV4 , 2009-10 Corolla , 2009-10 Matrix , 2005-10 Avalon , 2007-10 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-10 Tundra, and 2008-10 Sequoia.

Irv Miller, group vice president for Toyota Motor Sales, said in a press release “Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.” The recall affects roughly 2.3 million Toyota vehicles.
